Question Help please!!!!!

Hi guys I'm back again! Just had a check up with Emma on Tuesday gone, had bloods, ECG and Echo. After getting the ECG I had a sneak peak at it while waiting for the echo and written on it was Left Axis Deviation and Borderline Prolonged QT. When I got into the consultant of course with all the other chat it went out of my head to ask her about it. I've rang a couple of times and her secretary has told me that she will get her to phone me back as soon as she can. In the meantime, of course I googled and am now in quite a state about Long QT. Any thoughts, help, advice, information is welcome!!

That is so frightening for you - I think there is a correlation between DCM and prolonged QT in some cases, which is why presumably they are keeping an eye on it. Be good to know if there is an interval which will need treatment and if so what and when - just keep asking - you need to know. Cyber hand holding going on.

Karol - first of all I am sorry that you are shocked by Emma's ECG and have googled - but I think it is really important that you ask your consultant as soon as possible because borderline prolonged QT in DCM is not always long QT (if that makes sense) it is common for DCM patients to have ECG's that are abnormal and show signs of strain (such as left axis deviation).

Below is I hope a medical explanation written better than I could describe it.

Please keep hassling her Doctors for reassurance (and perhaps stay off the internet )! In DCM I have discovered that google really isn't a friend (although I can't resist it either).

All is well again, I got a good telling off about the perils of Google Crumlin rang me back finally to say that the ECG machine prints out anything it detects in the slightest, due to mistakes in the regional hospitals, so the ECG needed to be read in finer detail. Emma is showing no signs of Long QT at the moment, and they assured me that if there was even a hint of it then it would be discussed so not to worry and they apologised for all the worry caused. Feel so stupid now!!
