![]() Fundraising event raised over £600 and an equal amount was matched by June Ainslie's employer. Tea and Trains at The Spinney Light Railway 15 September 2007
A sunny afternoon was spent in beautiful surroundings at the home of Mr & Mrs Ainslie, near Farnham in Surrey by members of HeartLine and their friends and families. The event was organised by owner June Ainslie (far left), HeartLine's Pam Lawrence (left) and Irene Carter (far right, seen here with her son Chris). It was a rare opportunity to ride on model steam trains, around the grounds, through cuttings and tunnels. Tea and home-made cakes were served on the lawn afterwards.
Fundraising for HeartLine HeartLine secures funds from corporate business and charitable trusts. At the present time, the trusts are our main source of income for our projects. These include hospital packs, dental packs, MedicAlert bracelets, sailing and PGL activity breaks. Corporate business is happy to fund projects, but will also consider core funding. This is the money needed to run the charity from day-to-day. This includes office rental, staffing, communications, HeartLine magazine, medical publications and fact sheets. Most companies now only give to charities nominated by their employees, or match the amount raised by an employee, such as Tea & Trains (above). If you know that your company gives money in this way, we would be pleased to hear from you. There is a large resource to be tapped and we need your help. We now have over 1,500 families registered with us and our costs are increasing year-on-year. Please tell us if you would consider working with us to approach your company, if so, please let us know the name of the company, address, telephone number and a contact name if possible by contacting the office.
HeartLine publishes foreign language versions of the Heart Children handbook The Heart Children Handbook is an acknowledged guide for parents who need to understand their child’s heart disorder. The handbook covers a comprehensive range of topics. This includes education, and social service provision in the UK. It is written and illustrated to make this complex subject a little less daunting. The handbook was first published in 1989 and updated in 2002. It has helped to inform thousands of parents in the UK and overseas. However, it was only available in English. We had been asked by clinicians if we would consider a translation project. To evaluate the need for such an undertaking, we sent a questionnaire to 17 children’s cardiac centres. The information they provided enabled us to formulate a list of priority languages: Arabic, Hindi, Urdu, Bengali, Gujarati, Punjabi, Somali, Cantonese, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Turkish and Albanian. In September 2004 we published Heart Children in 7 of the languages: Arabic, Hindi, Urdu, Gujarati, Punjabi, Bengali and Italian on the internet at our dedicated website www.heartlinetranslations.co.uk The translations are a valuable asset to cardiologists and cardiac nurses and also to general practitioners and community nurses who are responsible for communicating this complex subject to parents from minority groups. This is of tremendous benefit to parents who do not speak English and to parents who speak English as a second language. All versions of the translated handbooks in paperback format are available for sale from the office. HeartLine Caravan Holiday Homes
